Adult law enforcement leadership training has been developed to enhance the quality of the post's programs. The Advisors' Resource Center includes basic Law Enforcement Exploring training as well as specialized topics.
To provide an experience that Advisors and their families will enjoy, a program for spouses has also been instituted.
Advisors' Resource Center
Advisors will have an opportunity to exchange ideas and share successful program ideas with other Advisors at the Advisors' Resource Center.
The center will focus on specific subjects, with a published schedule of topics to enable you to take advantage of your interest areas.
Law Enforcement Exploring topics to be presented Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will include discussions on the Law Enforcement Exploring program helps, Learning for Life youth protection guidelines, liability insurance, state Explorer Advisor associations, scholarships and awards, firearms policy, the Ride-Along program, and other Explorer-related programs and policies.
Advisor of the Year
During the 2008 conference one of the law enforcement Advisors will be honored for his or her service and dedication to the program. If you are interested in having someone considered, complete the nomination form found in the "Forms" section of this guide.
Youth Elections
During the 2008 conference, the national law enforcement Exploring youth representative for the coming (two) years will be selected. If you are interested in being considered for the position of national Law Enforcement Exploring youth representative, complete the nomination form found in the "Forms" section of this guide.
Note: Only applications that are completed in full and submitted with the appropriate documentation, signatures, etc., from people who meet the age criteria, as set forth by the National Law Enforcement Exploring Committee, will be considered in the election process.
The process for determining the 2008-2010 law enforcement youth representative will be as follows.
Eligibility
- Nominees must be at least 17 years of age by April 15, 2008. The youth representative must be under age 21 for the entire term of office. Date of birth cannot be before August 1, 1989. The term expires during the 2010 National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference.
- Nominees should have a minimum of two years of continuous participation with a participating Law Enforcement Explorer post. Nominees should be in good standing with their post and participating organization.
- The national youth representative must be available to travel twice annually to National Law Enforcement Exploring Committee meetings.
- Nominees chosen to participate in the election process must be registered for and plan to attend the 2010 conference, and be available for a Sunday meeting prior to the start of the conference.
- A copy of each nominee's driver's license will be required as proof of age.
Selection
- All nomination forms should be sent to: Nominating Committee, Law Enforcement Exploring, 1325 West Walnut Hill Lane, Irving, TX 75038.
- All nomination forms for the national youth representative must be received no later than March 21, 2008, at the above address.
- Incomplete nomination forms will not be considered.
- Nomination forms will be reviewed by a selections committee composed of, but not limited to, members of the National Law Enforcement Exploring Committee, past youth representatives, and other individuals as selected by the youth elections committee chairperson.
- The selection committee will select three final candidates from among the nominees to compete in an election to be held during the conference.
- The three final candidates will be notified of their selection in writing by May 5, 2008. They will be provided with a list of specific election guidelines and rules and will be expected to adhere to same.
Election Process
- There will be no formal campaigning. A site and specific times will be designated for the candidates and their respective post members to "promote" their leadership qualities, experience, etc. The three final candidates may distribute a single-page campaign flyer, to be provided by the law enforcement Exploring office at the designated site.
- Posters, fliers, etc. may not be displayed in any location other than the site designated by the election committee.
- Members of the candidate's sponsoring post may assist their candidate during the designated times by handing out fliers, etc. Sponsoring post members may wear buttons or other such items that promote their candidate during the designated time.
- Candidates and the members of their respective posts, Advisors, sponsoring agency heads, etc., may not campaign for their candidate in any such manner that would provide an unfair advantage to their candidate. No items such as buttons, pins, pens, hats, or other such promotional items are to be distributed anywhere, at any time during the conference.
- Each candidate will be introduced at the opening ceremony and will be allowed three minutes during which he or she may address the conference participants. Candidates must make their own presentation, and the presentation must be limited to three minutes.
- Each post will be provided one ballot for the election. Post members attending the conference should confer with one another, and ballots should represent the opinion of the majority of the post members present. Balloting will be conducted at a designated location on Thursday, July 24.
- The youth election committee will tally the ballots, and the 2008-2010 national Law Enforcement Exploring youth representative will be announced at the awards ceremony on Friday, July 25.

Youth
Representative
- Work closely with and be responsible to the national committee adviser and adult committee chair on program ideas and resource materials.
- Attend meetings of the National Law Enforcement Exploring Committee as the youth representative during the term of office. Travel, room, and board expenses will be provided; no other expenses will be provided.
- Serve as the "official representative" for the cluster when requested by the national adviser.
- Agree to work within the framework of Exploring.
- Agree to wear identifying items officially recognized by National Law Enforcement Exploring at Exploring functions.
- Share copies of all correspondence relating to the position with the national adviser. Share all correspondence, notes, newsletters, etc., relating to policy with the national adviser for approval prior to their release.
- Agree to resign from office if requested by the national committee chair and the national adviser.
- This position has a two-year term (expiring during the 2008 National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference) with removal for cause at the discretion of the national adviser and National Law Enforcement Explorer Committee chairman.
- Assist the designated national committee member with the planning and coordination of the National Law Enforcement Exploring booth at the IACP and NSA conferences.
